My Stephen King kind of day

With rainy season if bloom, so is the fog that goes along with it, especially near water. I tried to go to the Big Buddha on Lantau Island (part of Hong Kong) recently, but was convinced I entered the setting for a Stephen King novel instead. It was so foggy, it was hard to see more than 10 feet ahead of you. We should have known that we wouldn't be able to see much when the cable cars were not even running due to the weather. We took a bus instead, so we didn't waste too much money getting up there. And getting to see the Buddha is free, unless you pay to go into the museum and get a snack. We opted for this because it was cheap.

So, here are pictures of us arriving, and going up the Buddha....

REMEMBER THIS SHOT: this is the beginning of our day here.

Luckily, these big signs helped lead the way

Hello, Stephen King setting...feeling creepy

This is  my friend Kerry, not that far in front of me

This is at the bottom (normally you can see him)

Oh, wait...starting to see something....

AND, this is as good as it gets.

After we saw what we could of the Buddha, we went into the museum part. It was nothing to write home about, but had some good history to it. We then made the trek back down the steps for our snack at the Vegetarian Deli. (No alcohol or meat allowed due to the monastery). Here are some pics of the monastery area.

The Tea Tree Gardens...more like a plantation

Outside the monastery..

Yay..something we could see (indoors!)

Of course, all we could do was laugh about the situation. I mean, who really thought the fog would be that thick? We sure didn't. It was rather funny.  We decided to leave after we had our snack/lunch. At first, we hoped it would get better, but it only got worse. Do you remember that first picture I told you to remember? It had the flags? Well, here is the same shot when we were leaving.

So, I will try to go to the Big Buddha another day. Maybe in October. When the rainy season is completely done! :)
