As an international teacher, I will blog about the cities I travel to, the ups and downs of teaching, and just plain life.

When it rains....it smells like poo
I enjoy Astana very much. However, there is one thing that just gets me - the smell when it rains. They use very smelly fertilizer everywhere in the city due to all the plants, trees, etc. So, when it rains around here, it smells like you are ankle deep in cow dung at the farm. Now, growing up around farms, I'm ok with the smell of farm animals. But, when the rain intensifies it and you have to smell it right before lunch, it kinda puts a damper on your appetite. I can't imagine how city slickers handle it. I have had that "farm-fresh" experience several times in life, but to someone from a big city, it has got to smell down-right awful. And that makes the mean side of me laugh. haha. On the bright side, I have managed to make it to and from work each day without getting rained on. Which is good, seeing as how I don't own an umbrella here! Thank you Mother Nature for holding off until I am in a building! :)
