A day of food..can't go wrong!

Yesterday was a very busy day for me, as well as a very yummy day.  To begin with, our school had an International Brunch. Several countries were represented, and each had something delicious from "home" for people to try. The good thing about getting there early to deliver food is that I was able to score some great dishes before they were all gone.

The first country I started with was Israel. There were two reasons for this. One, they had hummus and falafel - two of my favorite foods! Two, they also had nearly half of my student at their table. Yes, a large portion of my class is from Israel and I just adore them and their parents. Actually, my whole class is awesome, as are the parents. So, I'm pretty lucky. :) Anyway, back to food. After I got my hummus, yogurt, falafel, and homemade pita bread (OMG), I headed to Brazil, France, South Africa and India. A friend of mine asked if I had tried the dumplings yet downstairs. My reply was, "We live in China. There are dumplings every day. I want food I can't always get." I proceeded to sample food from Italy, Germany, and Thailand. My, oh my, how my belly was full at the end of that hour.

Above: Flags from around the world, and two dear friends from South Africa (Hannette and Org).

Once I had filled my stomach to the limits, I left to go shopping for fabric. You can buy any fabric you can image here, and then pay to have clothes custom made to fit you. I have a favorite pair of dress pants I love, so I'm going to get a few more pairs made. The fabric shop is almost an hour away, but well worth the trip.

To end my day, I attended a Mooncake Party sponsored by a new local Women and Children's Hospital. I am SO glad I did. Not only was it a free event, but it was a great opportunity to meet some new people. And if that were not good enough, it was some of the best food I have eaten - ever! Now, since I had eaten a huge brunch, I had not eaten the rest of the day until the dinner. I'm sure glad I didn't. I needed all the room I could find to delight myself on the roasted lamb, dumplings, grilled duck, sirloin steak, smoked goose, and more!!

We enjoyed the hot buffet, the salads, the ice cream and chocolate fondue fountain! Oh, and I can't forget the unlimited wine as well!! Finally, good wine here in China! As we are enjoying our company of good friends and such, and preparing to wrap up the evening, there was one door prize left. We all joked that each of us would win, but I actually did!! A bottle of white wine - perfect!   It truly was a great day of fun, food, and friends. I couldn't ask for a better day.
